This was not working, and I thought, oh heck, I'll see what I can do. With what turned out to be some fairly minor code changes it now it works.

The trick is that if you Log Out of the application then it will loose the cookie and you'll have to log in again. If instead you just close the browser (or tab in the browser) then you will be automagically logged in the next time you go to the members login page. Of course if you are like me, and have more than one account you will need to log out and then type in the user name and password for your other account.
